Neurodiversity & ADHD Support for Families in the Comox Valley
Raising a child with ADHD, autism, or other neurodiverse traits comes with unique joys and challenges that most people don't fully appreciate. The constant advocacy, the sensory meltdowns, the school meetings, the guilt when you lose your patience — it all adds up. And when the world around you doesn't quite understand your child (or what you're managing as a parent), it can feel incredibly lonely.
In therapy, I create a space where you can be honest about all of it — the love and the frustration, the pride and the exhaustion. We'll work together to process the emotions that come with caregiving, build practical strategies for managing stress and burnout, and reconnect with your own identity and needs outside of your parenting role.
I take a strengths-based, person-centered approach. Rather than focusing on what's "wrong," we explore what's working and build from there. This might include developing self-compassion practices, improving communication within your family, navigating the education and healthcare systems, or simply having a space where you don't have to be "on" for anyone else.
Many caregivers of neurodiverse children in Comox, Courtenay, and the broader Comox Valley tell me they've never had someone ask how they're really doing. In our sessions, you come first. We'll celebrate your wins as a parent (even the small ones) and work through the hard moments with curiosity and understanding — not judgment.
Sessions are available in-person at Comox Valley Counselling in Courtenay, as well as virtually or by phone. Whether your child was recently diagnosed or you've been on this journey for years, it's never too late to get support for yourself.
