Warm, grounded therapy rooted in real life.
I’m Carly Wintschel — a counselling psychology student, wife, mother of two boys, and someone who came to this work through a winding, beautifully imperfect path. I believe that our struggles don’t define us, but they can shape us into something stronger when met with compassion and curiosity.

My path to counselling
Before training as a counsellor, I completed a Bachelor of Education and spent five years teaching elementary school in Singapore and Canada. I later followed my love of creativity and entrepreneurship, training in pastry arts in France and owning and operating a wholesale bakery for over ten years. Those careers might sound very different, but they taught me the same things: patience, precision, and the importance of creating environments where people feel safe enough to take risks and grow.
My journey into counselling was deeply personal. I’m a wife and mother to two boys — a journey that has included both adoption and in vitro fertilization. Navigating the complexities of reproductive mental health, the adoption process, and the identity shifts that come with parenthood opened my eyes to how much we all need spaces where we can be honest about what we’re going through. I wanted to create that space for others.
I’m currently completing my Master’s of Counselling Psychology and offer low-cost counselling during my practicum at Comox Valley Counselling in Courtenay. I work with children (10+), youth, and adults — helping people navigate the full spectrum of human experience.
My therapeutic approach
My approach is grounded in creating a caring, non-judgmental space where you feel seen, heard, and empowered. I draw from several frameworks including person-centered therapy, strength-based and solution-focused approaches, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) — adapting my approach to meet you where you are.
I believe therapy works best when it feels like a real conversation — not a clinical exercise. I bring warmth, humour when it fits, and a genuine curiosity about who you are and what you need. My goal isn’t to fix you (you’re not broken); it’s to help you reconnect with your own wisdom and resilience.
