Adoption Counselling in Comox & Courtenay
As someone whose family has been personally shaped by both adoption and IVF, I bring both professional training and lived understanding to this work. I know that adoption isn't a single event — it's a lifelong experience that touches identity, attachment, grief, belonging, and love in ways that most people don't fully appreciate.
For adoptive parents, therapy can help you navigate the waiting process, manage the complex emotions of the home study, prepare for transracial or transcultural parenting, and address the attachment challenges that sometimes arise. I support you in becoming the parent your child needs, with compassion for the moments when it feels harder than you expected.
For adult adoptees, counselling provides a space to explore questions of identity, belonging, and the layered grief that can come with relinquishment — even when your adoption story is a positive one. You don't need to feel "grateful enough" or "okay with it" to seek support. Your feelings, whatever they are, are valid.
I also work with families navigating open adoption relationships, sibling dynamics, disclosure conversations, and the evolving needs of adopted children as they grow. Adoption is not one-size-fits-all, and neither is the support I offer.
If you're in Comox, Courtenay, or the broader Comox Valley, I'd love to connect. I offer sessions in-person at Comox Valley Counselling in Courtenay, as well as virtually or by phone. Finding a therapist who truly "gets" adoption can be rare. You don't have to explain why this matters — I already know.
